Fasciola hepatica, also known as the common liver fluke or sheep liver fluke, is a parasitic flatworm of the class Trematoda, phylum Platyhelminthes. The word "Fasciola" is derived from the Latin "fascis", meaning bundle or group, and perhaps refers to the bundle-like appearance of the adult worm. "Hepatica" derives from the Greek "hepar", meaning liver, indicating the organ in which this parasite is most commonly found in its host.
