Ehrlichia canis is a species of bacteria that infects dogs and causes the disease known as canine monocytic ehrlichiosis. It is transmitted primarily through the bite of the brown dog tick (Rhipicephalus sanguineus). Ehrlichia canis infects and replicates within white blood cells, leading to various symptoms including fever, lethargy, anorexia, and bleeding disorders. If left untreated, the disease can progress to severe illness and even death in dogs.
