The Zondek-Ascheim test, also known as the A-Z test, was an early biological test for pregnancy. It was developed by German gynecologists Selmar Aschheim and Bernhard Zondek in the 1920s. The test involved injecting a woman's urine into immature female mice or rabbits, then examining the animals' ovaries a few days later. If the woman was pregnant, her urine would contain the hormone hCG (human Chorionic Gonadotropin), which would stimulate the growth of ovarian follicles in the injected animal, indicating a positive pregnancy test. This test is outdated and has been replaced by modern pregnancy tests.
